Long before the Hidden Palace welcomed its first guest, it was never intended to be a hotel room at all. Tucked within the wider 5,000 sqm grounds of Hanging Gardens of Bali in Payangan, north of Ubud, the estate was conceived as a private residence for the resort’s own owners — a home built with a scale, autonomy and security that no standard villa could offer. 
 

That ambition shaped everything that followed. Its structural foundations rose alongside the resort itself between 2003 and 2005, but the vision demanded far more than a construction timeline could capture. Six years in the making, the Hidden Palace called on more than 600 Indonesian artisans and craftsmen, who hand-carved its soaring teak wood structures and traced traditional Balinese geometry through every wall and archway — a fusion of Javanese royal artistry and modern comfort found nowhere else on the island. The result was envisioned by designer Jessy of Arpha Studio, whose eye for heritage gave the estate its unmistakable character. 
 

Its provenance is inseparable from its geography. Submerged entirely within the jungle canopy above the Ayung River, the Palace cannot be seen from the resort proper. It reveals itself only to those who arrive by private funicular, carried directly into the hillside — an approach as ceremonial as it is discreet, setting the tone before a single door is opened. 

In recent years, the estate underwent a further evolution: a three-year redesign led by the globally acclaimed BLINK Design Group, modernizing its infrastructure while safeguarding the cultural soul woven into its original craftsmanship. The result honors two decades of artistry while meeting the expectations of the world’s most discerning travelers.
